What is a format transfer?
I provide a service to convert previously recorded material between
formats – usually from old LPs or tapes to CD or to MP3 files. In
the transfer process I can even improve the sound quality and clean up the
tape where necessary.
Why Transfer?
Many of us have recordings of concerts, meetings, conferences,
weddings, and family events on audio tapes or just old LPs we cant play
any more or just want in a more convenient format. These recordings may
contain important and/or treasured memories. Unfortunately, magnetic
tapes degrade with time and use and can suffer physical damage from the
tape transport mechanisms on some tape players. Sooner or later you are
going to get rid of that old record player.
- Transfer to another format helps protect your recordings from
further damage and you can then easily back them up or make copies on
your home computer.
- The result can be a clearer, more pleasing recording that replays at
a good volume and is stored on a more stable and readable medium:
one-off CDs or
MP3 files.
What Options Are There To Improve Sound Quality?
• My standard service includes the transfer from the original source
tape to CD with basic cleaning and level enhancement.
• My enhanced digital re-mastering service builds on this to make
your recordings sound as good as they possibly can. This can be
essential for old, poor-quality recordings and is recommended for all
transfers.
